Our CF Climb Story
Climbing in Memory of Avis Powell
This event is near and dear to us. Wendy Q’s sister, Avis, passed away in 2001 from CF. Avis was three years old when she was diagnosed in 1972. The doctors gave her 7 years to live. When the disease finally took her, she was four months shy of 32 years old.
She left behind her husband, two boys, family — and many more people who loved her dearly. Because of the efforts of organizations like the CF Foundation, people like Avis can defy the odds and have productive, happy lives of 30-40 years and beyond.
CF is a genetic disease that severely affects the lungs and digestive system. There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe.
We climb for them.
