As you know, it is because of all the walks and donations we have made and collected that the CF Foundation has been able to aggressively fund pharmaceutical research and develop new drugs for our kids. Over the past 9 months Joshua has participated in a clinical study testing one of these drugs. During the study he was given a placebo and noticed no improvement. However, near the end of December he was given the real drug and it has truly changed his life in a short amount of time! His lung function has improved to levels we haven't seen in over 4 years and he has been gaining weight too! This is the life changer we've been waiting for his entire life! Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
Madelyn has recovered from her ACL reconstruction surgery which took place last June and she looks forward to getting back on the soccer field. She continues to thrive as far as her CF goes, and with her determination, we pray that continues. When the experimental drug that Joshua is taking receives FDA approval, Madelyn will be prescribed it as well.

Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
